The development of Hot Rolled Steel Near Net Shapes is a highly technical process supported by Computer Aided Design programs and direct numerically-controlled lathes. Each step in the design procedure is a precise calculation based on the customer's final specifications, plus rolling temperatures and metallurgical characteristics. Therefore, McDonald Steel Near Net Shapes are a far cry from standard commodity hot rolled bar products. Each Shape or Profile is carefully engineered through eleven sequential stages where the hot billet will be squeezed and formed into its final and often asymmetrical configuration. Each shape requires individualized or tailored tooling. All McDonald Steel tooling is proprietary for exclusive use by the customer for whom it was produced.
